About Princesses and Frogs

And let me remind you of one more fairy tale, “The Frog King or Iron Heinrich” by Grimm Brothers. This tale is notable for the fact that the princess in it is an extremely unpleasant person. Well, judge for yourself … At first, she doesn’t find anything smarter than playing with a golden ball, sitting on the edge of a well. Naturally, as expected, it all ended with an expensive toy falling into the well. Then, as befits an infantile person, she did not find anything better than sobbing, so the flowers began to fade, and the water in the well almost rotted away. And as expected, she did not try to solve the problem on her own … Then she promised EVERYTHING to the frog, who take pity on the wretched crying princess, if only he would help, and guess what? Naturally, she lied! And when the frog nevertheless came to the palace, the father-king almost fell through the earth out of shame, and forced his daughter not to dishonor the crown and keep her word – this young lady throws the frog against the wall, with the direct intention of killing. Which would have happened if it had not been for the enchantment, and so poor frog turned into a Prince. Oh, in this fairy tale I wholeheartedly on the side of the Prince. I wish he has “happily ever after”, whatever that means for the princess! The illustration today by the beautiful Paul Friedrich Meyerheim (1842-1915)
